The concept of a free dating site sounds fantastic. You get a free service that you actually need and normally are asked to pay for. No credit card charges, no bills, no hassle. Sounds like the best deal ever – right?

The answer to that is pretty complex. In most cases, the totally free dating sites usually have a small user base which decreases the user's chances of actually finding potential dates.

After all, it's a numbers game. The more profiles you get to browse – the better odds you have of actually finding someone you'll like.

In most cases, it's not that easy to find someone who is from your general geographic area, your preferred age group and who also meets your other search parameters (education level, appearance, personal interests and more) on a free dating site.

That is where the big paid dating websites have their huge advantage. Their databases are filled with millions (!!!) of user profiles and that's a very hard thing for free dating sites to compete with. The paid dating sites typically have a large advertising budget so they can attract large numbers of potential dates.

The odds of finding a date on a site that have 500 or even 5,000 profiles can't be compared to the odds of finding love on a website which contains 3, 5 or 10 million members. The more people you have the opportunity to view, the better the odds are that you will find the one who is right for you.

Free online dating services do not yet offer the same high quality service that their commercial competitors do. If they want to be successful, their sites must be close enough to the commercial sites in value that there would be no reason for people to pay to go on a dating site.

If the free services succeed in developing their user bases, that's when the commercial sites will start to worry. After all, it all comes down to who can deliver real results at the lowest price and no price is lower than 100% free.
